This year our "Making a Difference" moment will support deeper investment in STEAM, an educational method that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. We have chosen to invest in STEAM because it is fundamental to the academic excellence in our mission, and will prepare our students to be competitive in today's technologically advanced world. About STEAM Born out of STEM, the "A" in STEAM integrates the creative process into this approach to education. STEAM will be a defining feature of future professions and we are committed to preparing our students to be the innovators, educators and leaders of the 21st century. Why invest in STEAM? Research shows that early access to cutting-edge resources is directly correlated to long-term success in STEAM fields. Therefore, this investment will support and enhance STEAM offerings for our students. Funds raised will benefit students in grades 6-12 at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year through the renovation of a dedicated STEAM learning space. This space may include flexible do-it-yourself (DIY) workstations, 3D printers and adaptable audio-video production capabilities. High school students will be able to engage fully from conception and design to physical production, through collaborative learning, computational thinking and innovation. Middle school students will be able to enhance existing clubs and teams, such as robotics and math. They will also be able to create new clubs and teams that take advantage of improved technology and equipment for the new science curriculum being implemented in the 2018-19 school year. In following years, we envision the creation of spaces that will open up curricular opportunities for students, which could include digital media arts, engineering, game and app development, web design and graphics production. If students can dream an idea, STEAM will provide the technology and tools to bring their vision to fruition.
