It has been almost one year since the coronavirus pandemic began to have broad effects at Eastside Catholic, throughout our community, state, country and the world. Although we are unable to gather for our annual auction this year, we are truly thankful that vaccines have been developed and are being distributed. We look forward with anticipation of a return to a time when we can all gather together.

Tuition alone does not fully cover the cost of an EC education. There is currently a $4,000 gap between the cost to educate an EC student and the tuition price. This shortfall is covered through fees, philanthropy and our endowment. Due to COVID-19 additional revenue sources were all but eliminated. Despite these setbacks, EC moved forward.

Many of our costs are fixed in the form of exceptionally talented and devoted faculty and staff who have continued to serve our mission and students during this time. Additionally, in the past year, we incurred costs for PPE, signage, hand sanitizing stations, additional cleaning supplies and services, Health Shield screenings and contact tracing apps, plexiglass barriers, OWL cameras, HVAC modifications, thermometers, wireless hotspots for families without reliable internet and more. All these unforeseen costs have totaled over $200,000 and significantly impacted our budget. These costs do not account for the increased tuition assistance needs for existing families whose jobs have been adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis or the need to hire proctors for teachers unable to teach on campus.

This year’s Making a Difference campaign seeks to address this shortfall. Our goal is to raise $250,000. Eastside Catholic has pressed on with the faith that the community, now recovered from the pandemic’s initial shock, will step forward to help meet these additional costs. These safety investments and incurred costs allowed Eastside Catholic to open the school and further serve our students.
